Sloud

A transformable sound-absorbing panel designed to make every room surprising.

Sloud was designed in a team of five students during the Product Development Studio at Politecnico di Milano (Proff. A. Deserti, A. Armillotta, G. Griffini) with the support of SAES, a company leader in the field of shape memory alloys production.

The panel is sound-absorbing and has been designed to be installed on the walls. Its peculiarity is that it is able to transform its appearance by a very simple sliding mechanism, which replaces the use of motors with the alloy wires (Nitinol) provided by the company.

The module is able to change its geometry in a silent way, creating different atmospheres in the environment where it is placed and totally transforming the look of the walls in the room. Once installed, people can modify the appearance (open/close) from one single switch placed in the room.

Light can also be integrated in the module. These features make “Sloud” a versatile object that can be positioned in all the places which require high acoustic performances.

There are four different options which refer to different moods: JOYFUL, NEUTRAL, GENTLE and OPTICAL. The module is highly customisable by changing the perforated texture of MDF panels and the colour of felt.
