Incontro

A wooden packaging, a tasting tool and a stand for the Italian jam producer Cascina Bonfiglio.

Incontro is a project developed for the company “Cascina Bonfiglio”, which is based in Sicily and produces jams. It took place in the context of the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design at Politecnico di Milano, Industrial Design Studio (2nd year – Prof. M. Ferrara, G. Andreoni). The company needed a new packaging design, a tool to taste jam and a display stand. The aim of Cascina Bonfiglio was to launch its top-level jams into a new scenery, linked to tasting, which could give value to the quality of its own products.

The packaging uses the dovetail joint as junction between the parts. When it is closed it is a simple parallelepiped, with a circular hole in the front which frames the jars inside. Once it is dismantled, it becomes a tasting set for jams and cheese, which the taster can use in two situations: sitting at a table or standing. The set uses the circular hole to host a glass for cocktails and has textured areas to make the grip more pleasant for the user. The lid hosts the spoons, which are fixed to it thanks to the dovetail joint.

The display stand is made of single modules in multilayer walnut wood. They are linked up through the dovetail joint. The male of the joint, the shelves and the drawers are in beechwood, in chromatic contrast with the rest of the structure. An easy assembly and adaptability are its main features.

The theme of the joints also inspired the logo of the project.
